The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season presents a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and builds tense rivalries and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator commented earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show implies there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating happens this season.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
