This transaction estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – a record for a Formula 1 squad – after the McLaren team was appraised at £3.5 billion in an adjustment to corporate structure last September. Wolff, who owns one-third of Mercedes F1, would sell a stake in the region of five percent. Wolff, aged 53 would stay on as team boss and CEO should the deal proceed. Ownership Breakdown Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos, who both hold a third of the company. A Mercedes spokesperson stated: "We are providing no official statement on this. The management structure of Mercedes F1 will remain unchanged, and each shareholder are fully committed to continued achievements of Mercedes-Benz in Formula One." Valuation Increase The deal would represent a significant increase in value of the Mercedes team since Ineos Group acquired its stake for £208 million in 2022. The rise reflects the expansion in market values of Formula 1 outfits in the past few years due to the increasing appeal of Formula 1 around the world. This was also seen in the success of the Formula 1 film featuring Brad Pitt, which was released last summer and has grossed over $630m (£458 million) at cinemas worldwide. The film represents the actor's top-grossing film and the most successful sports movie ever released. Present Performance Mercedes are runner-up in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren Racing, with three races left this season. Mercedes' primary racer George Russell has won two of the 21 grands prix this year and is in fourth place in the individual standings after McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. The team secured a record eight consecutive constructors' championships and seven driver championships, six for Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, between 2014 to 2021.
